The short version: We don't collect personal data. No accounts, no cookies, no tracking of individual students. Anonymous gameplay data helps us improve content.
Analytics and Data Collection
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) in cookieless mode to understand how MaffsGames is used. This means:
- No cookies are stored on your device
- No personal data is collected
- Your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google
- We cannot identify you as an individual
The data we collect includes which pages are visited, which games are played, approximate geographic region (city level), and how long pages are viewed. This data is processed by Google and subject to Google's privacy policy.
GA4 Measurement ID: G-992JLHLP2D
Gameplay Analytics
In addition to Google Analytics, we log anonymous gameplay events to our own secure database. This helps us understand which questions students find difficult, how far through games students typically get, and which games and levels are most used — so we can improve content and fix problems quickly.
The data we collect includes:
- Which game was played and at which curriculum level
- Whether individual questions were answered correctly
- How many attempts were made per question
- Session completion and score data
What we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any identifying information (three-letter initials may be voluntarily entered for the leaderboard — see below)
- Your IP address
- Any data that could identify you as an individual student or teacher
This data is stored securely and is never shared with third parties. It is used solely to improve MaffsGames content.
Leaderboard
After completing a game, students may optionally enter three-letter initials (e.g. J.F.K.) for the public leaderboard ticker. This is entirely voluntary — scores are still recorded without initials. Initials are stored in Firebase Realtime Database (Google Cloud, europe-west1 region) alongside the score, game name, and timestamp. No other personal data is attached to leaderboard entries.
Initials are filtered to prevent inappropriate submissions. They are displayed publicly on the site's score ticker and may appear to any visitor. If you would like initials removed, contact us at contact@maffsgames.co.uk.
Local Storage
MaffsGames uses your browser's local storage for two purposes:
- Accessibility preference — remembers whether you have enabled the OpenDyslexic font toggle
- Leaderboard initials — remembers your three-letter initials so you don't need to re-enter them each game
These are simple preferences stored on your device only. They contain no personal data, are not sent to any server, and are not used for tracking. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings.
No Sign-Up Required
There are no accounts, no logins, and no registration. Students open the link and play. Teachers share links directly — no admin panel, no class codes, no data dashboard.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the MaffsGames newsletter, your email address is stored by MailerLite (account 2189944). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email. MailerLite's privacy policy applies to this data.
Feedback Form
The feedback form at maffsgames.co.uk/feedback/ is powered by Formspree. Any message you submit is processed by Formspree and forwarded to contact@maffsgames.co.uk. Formspree's privacy policy applies. We do not store submitted messages beyond our email inbox.
Buy Me a Coffee
The Buy Me a Coffee link at buymeacoffee.com/maffsgames is an external service. Any transaction or account data is handled entirely by Buy Me a Coffee and subject to their privacy policy. MaffsGames does not receive any financial or personal data from this service.
GDPR and PECR Compliance
MaffsGames operates in cookieless mode and collects no personal data. The only data stored on your device is two local storage preferences (accessibility and leaderboard initials), neither of which constitutes personal data under GDPR. MaffsGames does not require a cookie consent banner under PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations).
This makes MaffsGames safe to use on school networks without ICT approval barriers.
Your Rights
You have the right to request information about any data held about you. As we do not collect personally identifiable information, we are unable to link any stored data to a specific individual. If you have questions about our data practices, contact us at contact@maffsgames.co.uk.
This privacy policy was last updated: 31 March 2026.
